Atlanta’s Epsten Group awarded Double LEED Platinum

February 13, 2015

News

Atlanta’s own Epsten Group, a design firm leading the way in sustainable design and building practices, has been awarded the prestigious LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) v4 Beta Platinum certification for Existing Buildings Operations and Maintenance for their office building, The Edge.   This award recognizes excellence in environmentally-friendly and sustainable building practices and The Edge is one of the first projects in the world to achieve such a distinction.  Located in the historic Old Fourth Ward neighborhood of Atlanta, The Edge was originally constructed in 1946.  It is testament to the work that Epsten has done to modernize the 40’s-era building, showcasing the latest in environmental standards championed by LEED.

The Double Platinum distinction under the new Version 4 (V4) goes beyond the typical award status of recognizing building practices, environmentally-friendly materials, locally-sourced products, etc. and extends its focus to how the building will maintain its sustainability over the lifetime of the structure in terms of maintenance and owner education.

Representatives from the City of Atlanta, Atlanta Progress Partners, Georgia Center of Innovation – Energy, Fulton County Economic Development Division, U.S. Green Building Council, and Congressman John Lewis’s Office were in attendance at the media event to honor Epsten Group’s hard work and dedication to sustainability.  Tours of the office space as well as the new green roof, and the presentation of the award certificate were all part of the day’s festivities.
